Conference Details

The Australasian Natural Hazards Management Conference is an annual international conference which seeks to provide a forum within the Australasian region to discuss the integration of hazard information into effective risk management of natural hazards.

The 2011 conference details are as follows:

Date:     18 – 21 July 2011

Venue:   Gold Coast, Australia

This year the conference will be held during the New Zealand school holidays, should families wish to travel together to the Gold Coast.

 

Conference Theme

The theme of this year’s conference is “Major Events, Major Impacts

With the major disasters that have occurred within the Australasian region and around the world since the last conference,  this year’s conference will be an important forum to explore how we conduct research into such devastating hazards. The conference includes sessions on a range of natural disaster management issues, including:

  • applying hazard information to best practice planning
  • exploring new technologies and advances in science
    applications
  • natural hazard mitigation
  • creating resilient communities and capacity building
    through integrating science into practice
  • recovery from natural disasters 

As with previous conferences, the audience for the 2011 conference includes:

  • emergency managers
  • policy makers
  • researchers
  • planners
  • risk assessors
  • asset and utility managers
  • scientists, and
  • students.

 

Conference Format

The 2011 conference will take the following format:

  • Monday 18 July 2011 – Pre-conference workshops and master classes
  • Tuesday 19 – Wednesday 20 July 2011 – Main conference
  • Thursday 21 July 2011 – Technical tours addressing natural hazards and emergency management within South East Queensland.

 

Conference Cost

The Australasian Natural Hazards Management Conference remains one of the most cost-effective emergency management conferences.

Fees for 2011 will be as follows:

  • Workshop fees – AUD $ 150 per workshop.  (Approx NZD $ 200 per session)
  • Main conference fee – AUD $ 400. (Approx NZD $ 530)
  • Technical Tours – AUD $150 for a day tour.  (Approx NZD $ 200 for the day)

Numbers for this year’s conference will be strictly limited.

As per previous conferences, an early bird discount (20%) will apply for registrations received prior to 30 May 2011; and bonafide fulltime students will also qualify for discounts on all fees (50%).

Presenters of workshops and papers will again be eligible to participate in workshops or the conference for free on the day of their presentation.
